Those who are unwilling to choose any of the 3 options and yet have issues can file their grievances before the committee led by Justice Gita Mittal: SC
The Supreme Court has given three options to the 284 students in Manipur who had approached it last week seeking accommodation at Central Universities owing to the violence that broke out in the state in May this year.
A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra said that these students can either shift to Assam University in Silchar or North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Shillong or may also opt for online classes at Manipur university itself.
The three-judge bench said that at this stage, these three options are there.
Students who desire admission in any of these two universities should contact the nodal officers of the universities for more details. Those who are unwilling to choose any of the given options and have issues can file their grievances before the committee led by Justice Gita Mittal. She will engage with the state administration regarding this and any other option submitted to us will be considered, said the apex court.
Following such requests, the relocation process will be conducted in two weeks, said the court.
The bench has also ordered Manipur University Hall to ensure that this move doesn’t hinder the students from completing their course of study with a degree.
The apex court was hearing the plea filed by around 284 students from Manipur students who sought admission to central colleges across the nation, stating that they had fled the unrest in their home state.
