MLAs of the BJP -led NDA in Manipur who met at the CM’s secretariat last night set a virtual deadline of seven days to the Centre asking for implementation of their 8-point resolution demanding among other things a mass security operation against the Kuki militants responsible for the killing of the 6 Meiteis, three women and three children, in Jiribam.
The meet chaired by Chief Minister N Biren Singh and attended by 27 MLAs, besides a few over telephone, also resolved that cases related to the killing of the 6 Meitei women and children in Jiribam, the death of a Hmar woman who was burnt on November 7 in Jiribam and the killing of a Meitei woman in Bishnupur on November 9 should be immediately handed over to the National Investigation agency (NIA).
The ruling MLAs also adopted a resolution demanding that Kuki militants responsible for the killing of the 6 Meiteis in Jiribam be declared unlawful organisation within 7 days. Not only this, the meet also resolved to urge the centre to review the re-imposition of Armed Forces Special Protection Act (AFSPA) in 6 police station areas – Sekmai (Imphal West), Lamsang (Imphal West), Lamlai (Imphal East), Jiribam (Jiribam District), Leimakhong (Kangpokpi) and Moirang (Bishnupur).
Significantly the NDA MLAs under CM Biren Singh resolved that if the key resolutions are not implemented within the specified deadline they will take a call on their future course of action in consultation with the people of the state.
The meet also resolved that the central and state governments will take all necessary steps at the earliest to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur. The meeting also condemned the acts of vandalism and arson at the residences of ministers and MLAs and decided to form a high powered committee to initiate legal action against those responsible for the violence. The meeting also endorsed the views and decisions of the state cabinet taken in the meeting held on November 16.
