Manipur Police Crack Down on Crime: Poppy Cultivation Busted, Abduction Foiled, and Weapons Recovered

In a major crackdown against illegal activities, Manipur Police carried out a series of successful operations across the state on the night of December 6 and December 7.
During an operation in the Khamason range of Ukhrul District, police arrested four individuals engaged in poppy cultivation. The accused were identified as Peimi Ramsak , Lightson Shimrah , Kapangkhui Khashim, and Yatei SV. The authorities discovered approximately 30 acres of poppy plantation in the area and recovered an air gun and two knives from their possession.
In a separate operation on December 7, a joint team comprising the Manipur Police, Forest Department, and an Executive Magistrate conducted a poppy destruction drive at Mao Pungdong under Mao Police Station. During the drive, one acre of poppy plantation was destroyed. Further legal action against the village chairman of the area is underway.
Meanwhile, in Thangal Bazaar, Imphal West, the police thwarted an abduction attempt and rescued two individuals. The suspect, identified as Tensubam Bangkim alias Punshiba alias Chakthekpa, a cadre of the KCP-Taibangnganba group, was arrested. A 9 mm pistol with seven live rounds and a white Maruti Gypsy were recovered from his possession.
In another operation, security forces conducted search and area domination drives in the fringe and vulnerable regions of the hill and valley districts. During the search in L. Jangnomphai, Kangpokpi District, a substantial cache of weapons and explosives was recovered. The recovered items include:

Five Stardyne 90 Explosives
Four Electric Detonators
Ammunition including two 9 mm rounds, five 7.62 mm rounds, five .22 rounds, four 7.65 mm rounds, and three .303 rounds
Three Arming Rings
One Rubber Round
One Mini Flare Cartridge
Five Anti-Riot Shells
One Baofeng Radio Set
