Manipur Police Arrest 13 Suspects Linked to Extortion Activities

In a major crackdown on extortion activities, Manipur Police and security forces carried out extensive intelligence-based combing and cordon-and-search operations across the state on April 26, resulting in the arrest of 13 individuals linked to various proscribed outfits.

At Wangkhei Thangapat Mapan near Young Pioneer Club under Porompat Police Station, Imphal East District, security forces arrested four cadres of UNLF(P) and one associate. The arrested cadres have been identified as Wangmayum Azizur Rahamna alias Tiger of Mayang Imphal Bengoon Yangbi Mayai Leikai, Imphal West, currently residing at Hatta Golapati KR Lane, Imphal East; Sheikh Wasim Raja allias Wangthoiba of Kiyamgei Muslim Mayai Leikai, Imphal East; Md. Faruk Khan alias Kengba of Phabakchao Konuma, Imphal West; and Phusham Ajmir alias Kakpa of Mayang Imphal Bengoon Yangbi Makha Leikai, Imphal West. Their associate has been identified as Khullakpam Ibosana of Oinam Sawombung Main Road, Imphal West.

Security forces recovered two live rounds (one .303 ammunition and one AK rifle ammunition), three wireless sets, seven mobile phones, and one four-wheeler from their possession. Investigations revealed that these UNLF(P) cadres were actively involved in extortion activities across the Imphal Valley and intimidated locals by forcefully meddling in private affairs for monetary gain. The associate acted as a middleman between the cadres and civilians.

In another operation, Manipur Police arrested Kshetrimayum Rajen Singh, an active member of KCP(PWG), from Kakching Lamdong area under Kakching Police Station, Kakching District. He was involved in recruiting new cadres for the outfit. Police seized one mobile phone from his possession.

Security forces also arrested Ningthoujam Birjit Meitei, an active member of KCP(PWG), from Nongren Mamang Leikai under Lamlai Police Station, Imphal East District. He was involved in extortion activities, and two mobile phones were recovered from him.

Additionally, Laishram Suraj Singh, an active KCP(PWG) member, was arrested from Sawombung Junction near the FCI Godown under Lamlai Police Station, Imphal East District.

Further, Manipur Police arrested three active KCP(PWG) members from Liwa Road under Singjamei Police Station, Imphal West District. The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Maneruddin of Lilong Haoreibi Lou Manga, Thoubal District; Md. Wajbir Ahamed alias Jimi of Lilong Sambrukhong, Thoubal District; and Thongam Joynanda Singh alias Boicha of Khongnangpheidekpi Aheibam Leikai, Imphal West District. From them, police seized three mobile handsets, two wallets, two Aadhaar cards, a sum of Rs. 650, and one two-wheeler.

Meanwhile, security forces arrested Takhellambam Meipaksana Singh alias Korou alias Bike, an active member of PREPAK(Pro), near the gate of the Imphal City Sewage Treatment Plant at Lamphelpat under Lamphel Police Station, Imphal West District. He was involved in extortion by issuing monetary threats to banks and the general public around Imphal.

He also confessed to locking a gas agency at Bamon Leikai, Imphal East District about seven days ago. From his possession, police recovered two mobile handsets and one Aadhaar card. He revealed that he worked under a self-styled Commander of PREPAK(Pro), who was working under Mrs. Sana, a commander of the same organization, recently arrested by Manipur Police and currently in police custody at Sagolmang Police Station.
