A combined team of Manipur Police, Army, CRPF, and BSF has intensified operations in Yaingangpokpi and surrounding hill areas after recent firing incidents in Imphal East. The operations aim to clear the region of armed miscreants and restore normalcy. The joint forces will continue their efforts until the area is deemed secure, according to an official update shared on X by the Manipur Police.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh strongly condemned the latest spate of violence, which saw Kuki militants launch indiscriminate firing at Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi villages. The attack, which took place on December 27, left civilians and security personnel injured.
Calling the incident a “cowardly” and “unprovoked” assault on innocent lives, the Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to peace and harmony. “Such acts are an attack on the very fabric of unity and peace we are striving for,” he wrote on X.
The Chief Minister also emphasised the importance of seamless coordination between central forces and the state police in handling such volatile situations. “Adequate security personnel have been dispatched to the affected areas. The injured are receiving necessary medical attention, and the government urges the public to remain calm and united in these challenging times,” he added.
Meanwhile, video journalist from a local cable TV channel sustained bullet injuries on the morning of December 28 while covering the ongoing firing incidents. The journalist is currently receiving medical care, and his condition is reported to be stable.
Security forces remain on high alert as the operations in Yaingangpokpi continue, with the authorities determined to neutralise armed miscreants and ensure the safety of residents in the conflict-hit region.
