Manipur: Mao council observes 74th Naga Martyrs Day

The day is observed as a landmark in the history of political movement of the Nagas in Manipur in particular and all Nagas in general.

The Mao Council under the aegis of the United Naga Council (UNC) has observed the 74th anniversary of “Naga Martyrs’ Day” at Mao Gate on Saturday.

The day is observed as a landmark in the history of political movement of the Nagas in Manipur in particular and all Nagas in general.

The observation of the day was started by the United Naga Council along with Mao Council from 2005 to mark the event when the Assam rifles killed different volunteers and students of the as they protested for the merger of all Naga region and started the “No Tax Campaign” in Naga hill areas.

Notably, Nagas of Manipur as well as the Nagas of then Naga hill district of Assam launched ‘No tax Campaign’ in 1948 for putting pressure on the Indian Govt for the merger of all Naga areas.
