Manipur High Court Forms 4-member Committee to Investigate Missing Kamalbabu’s Case

The Manipur High Court formed a four-member committee to conduct an investigation into the mysterious disappearance of Laishram Kamalbabu.
The Manipur High Court on Wednesday formed a four-member committee to conduct an investigation into the mysterious disappearance of Laishram Kamalbabu Singh from the Leimakhong Army Camp on November 25.
The committee members include Kangpokpi’s District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, (SP) of Imphal West and Kangpokpi and the Chief Security Officer of the Army’s 57 Mountain Division, who would be Colonel rank officer.
The committee has been set up in response to the petition filed by the missing Kamalbabu’s younger brother, identified as Laishram Kamal (56).
A two-judge bench of the Manipur High Court, comprising Chief Justice D Krishnakumar and Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu, heard the petition filed by Laishram Kamal yesterday. The committee has a week to submit a detailed report of its findings by the next hearing date, scheduled for December 11.
The petitioner, had raised concerns regarding the lack of a formal report from the fourth respondent. In response, the court directed the respondent to submit an affidavit by the next hearing date.
The committee will investigate whether Kamalbabu was abducted from the military camp or he left the camp on his own. “This aspect requires detailed enquiry, and we have appointed a committee for the same,” the court stated.
The petitioner’s counsel requested that the missing person’s family, including Kamalbabu’s relatives, be allowed to participate in the investigation process. The court agreed, directing the District Magistrate to notify the family and ensure their cooperation in providing any available materials or records related to the case.
Meanwhile, wife of Kamalbabu and his relatives continue to protest outside the Army camp seeking his safe return.
