UNC discouraged the government’s policy for setting up and operating of Semi-Permanent Relief Camps inside Naga Areas

The United Naga Council (UNC) has reacted strongly against the steps taken by the Manipur Government to set up Semi-Permanent Relief Camps in Naga areas of Manipur. Taking strong exception to the recent State Home Department’s memorandum, stating guidelines for setting up and operating of Semi-Permanent Relief Camps for displaced persons of the ongoing conflict, UNC stated the step can pose a serious threat that can cause a breach of peace in the future due to various problems attributed to the adverse demographic imbalances in different districts of the state.

UNC discouraged the government’s policy for setting up and operating of Semi-Permanent Relief Camps inside Naga Areas and stated that the Council will not allow the setting up of any permanent structure or Semi-permanent Relief Camps apart from immediate temporary relief arrangement in Naga areas to address the plight of the displaced persons.

UNC while appreciating the relief activities and measures taken up by the government, said any step initiated by the government to mitigate the crisis should not harm the position of other communities or purportedly pose threat to.
