Manipur Govt to begin construction of 70 km fencing along India-Myanmar border

CM N Biren Singh said that safeguarding the porous borders has become an urgent necessity
The Manipur government will soon begin the construction of an additional 70 km of border fencing along the India-Myanmar border, said Chief Minister N Biren Singh today.
A day after announcing that the Free Movement Regime with Myanmar has been withdrawn in the wake of the alleged illegal influx, Chief Minister N Biren Singh today held a meeting with the officials of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and deliberated on the plan to begin consturction of the border fencing.
The Manipur Chief Secretary, DGP and officials from the Home department also attended the meeting.
Chief N Minister Biren Singh said that in view of rise in illegal immigration and drug smuggling from the neighbouring country, safeguarding the porous borders has become an urgent necessity.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, CM N Biren Singh wrote, “Held a meeting with the officials of BRO and deliberated the plan to begin construction of an additional 70 km of border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border. I was joined by Chief Secretary, DGP & officials from the Home Department. In view of the rise in illegal immigration and drugs smuggling from the neighbouring country, safeguarding our porous borders has become an urgent necessity.”
