Nearly 2000 security personnel have been deployed to guard farmers engaged in cultivation
The Manipur Government has constituted a state-level monitoring committee as well as district-level monitoring committees for facilitating cultivation in the law and order-affected areas in the state.
The committee were constituted following a meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Monday evening.
The committees will be responsible for various activities such as facilitating farmers in agricultural activities, planning and coordinating with adjacent districts, ensuring adequate deployment of security forces as per requirement, and monitoring time-bound implementation of agricultural activities among others, informed Government Spokesperson Minister Th. Basanta Kumar.
The administrative secretary of the Agricultural Department is the chairman of the state-level monitoring committee and various officials such as the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and all DAO, also the members of the farmers’ welfare groups are members of the committee.
Minister Basanta Kumar further said that nearly 2000 security personnel have been deployed to guard farmers engaged in cultivation in violence-hit areas of the state.
Responding to a quarry to Northeast Live, Minister Basanta Kumar assured that there will be no famine next year.
It may be mentioned here that after nearly two months, agriculture activities have once again begun in Manipur on July 6 after CM N Biren Singh announced the resumption of farming under the protection of the Army and the state forces.
The move was taken by the government amid apprehensions that farmers may not be able to carry out their agricultural activities in the areas where the Imphal Valley merges with the hills due to security concerns.
Chief Minister N Biresn Singh today chaired a meeting with Ministers, MLAs and official to discuss issues concerning farmers welfare.
Manipur has been on the boil for over two months now since violence broke out in the state between two communities on May 3.
