As the refugees from neighbouring Myanmar continue to cross over to Manipur and Mizoram seeking safer accommodation, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said that the state government may offer them humanitarian help and then send them back to their country.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the state government has instructed the border Deputy Comissioners that they can offer the refugees help on humanitarian ground and then deport them back to their country.

Mynmar nationals have enterd Manipur to escape the ongoing violence in their country.
About 700 illegal immigrants entered the state in July.

According to the Home Department’s statement, on July 22 and 23, when the violence in Manipur was at its peak, 718 illegal immigrants—301 of whom were children—entered the Chandel district of the state.

Following the influx, the state government emphasized that these illegal immigrants must be sent back to their country of origin as soon as possible by the border-guarding force.

Earlier, CM Biren Singh has said that the Centre as well as the state government’s decision to execute a plan for completely sealing the porous border with Myanmar is progressing expeditiously.

He himself is closely monitoring the progress made so far and is in touch with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) officials, the implementing agency for the fencing the borders with neighbouring Myanmar.

The government intends to completely wipeout the menace of illegal migration as drugs trafficking, which it considers has now become an “urgent necessity”.
