Manipur Governor Visits Flood Affected Areas. Directs DC s to Arrange Evacuation and Relief Measures

Manipur Governor instructed the officials to monitor the river situation closely and to implement pre-emptive measures.

Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, on Saturday visited various flood affected areas of Imphal city. He went around different locations on the banks of Imphal River, assessing its overall condition.

During the visit, the Governor instructed the officials to monitor the river situation closely and to implement pre-emptive measures. He further directed have all the Deputy Commissioners to arrange evacuation and provide relief measures to the affected people. SDRF and NDRF units have also been alerted.

The key locations Governor Bhalla visited included Kangla Nongpok Thong, Lairikyengbam Leikai, and Singjamei Bridge.Governor Bhalla was accompanied by the Chief Secretary, Commissioner (Home), Superintendent of Police (Imphal East), and other senior officials. The flood situation in Manipur has worsened on Saturday with people in state currently facing flash floods as rivers overflow due to continuous heavy rainfall. Most rivers in the state have crossed the danger mark, affecting several areas. Parts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Senapati, and Kangpokpi have been affected by floods.

In capital city Imphal the flood situation has worsened prompting rescue and evacuation operations. Manipur Fire Service successfully conducted a rescue operation at Officer Colony in Imphal East, where flash floods had inundated the area. There are reports of 2 children drowning, one missing and another rescued in Imphal East.

The Imphal river which is flowing above the danger level has breached embankments in Khura and Heingang area inundating new areas. Security Forces, NDRF, SDRF, Assam Rifles, and the Indian Army are actively engaged on the ground for rescue and relief operations.

A Flood Control Room has been set up with emergency helpline number 0385-2451550.Assam Rifles has also issued flood relief helpline numbers for Imphal West, Imphal East & Kakching.
