Manipur flood situation continues to be grim: Public holiday extended till tomorrow, power, mobile towers disconnected to prevent electrocution

Breaches in the Nambol River under Bishnupur District have been restored, and parts of breaches in the Imphal River at Singjamei have also been repaired.

The Manipur Government has extended the public holiday till tomorrow due to the prevailing situation of floods and incessant rainfall. Floodwaters continue to inundate more than 1000 houses in Singjamei, Kakwa, Keirao, and parts of Canchipur in Imphal West District, and another 500 houses in Kshetrigao, Thambal Khong, Kongpal, and parts of Irong in Imphal East District.

As of now, breaches in the Nambol River under Bishnupur District have been restored, and parts of breaches in the Imphal River at Singjamei have also been repaired. Efforts are underway to restore breaches in the Kongba River, with intensive focus on the breaches in the Iril River.

From 5 AM to 5 PM, there was no rainfall in the Imphal Valley. Ministers, MLAs, and top-ranking officials from civil and active services have been deployed to all affected areas to assist in breach restoration. Teams including NDRF, SDRF, and volunteers are distributing food packages in affected areas. Electricity and mobile towers have been disconnected to prevent untoward incidents in flooded areas of both Imphal East and West.

MAHUD Minister Yumnam Khemchand was seen on the ground assisting people in repairing breaches at Singjamei. Forest Minister Thongam Bishwajit was also seen near Kongba River in Thongju Assembly Constituency, actively involved in breach restoration efforts. Health Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan and Education Minister Thounaojam Basanta Kumar were present at Thangtek, assisting in the restoration of breaches in the Nambol River. Efforts are ongoing in Kshetrigao to restore three breaches at the Iril River.

Water Resource Minister Awangbow Newmai has been tirelessly overseeing operations round the clock in all affected areas of Imphal East, Imphal West, and Bishnupur District.
