Manipur CM N Biren Singh visits violence-hit Telepati, assures security, shares personal mobile nos

Manipur CM N Biren Singh in a strong message said that government will not spare anybody who tries to derail peace.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today sent out a strong warning and said that anyone involving in spreading unrest and enmity will not be spared. CM Singh said this after visiting the violence-hit
Telepati in Imphal East district where innocent civilians were targetted by unidentified miscreants, several vehicles were burnt down and property destroyed.

Chief Minister Singh has urged people to use social media responsibly, not spread rumours and inflammatory messages that could Instigate people resulting in violence and unrest.

As an uneasy calm still prevails in the area after the violent clashes that took place last night between two groups over a religious site. Locals were a bit relieved when Chief Minister N Biren Singh himself took stock of the situation and assured security and safety.

A member of a local club said, “Chief Minister had come and reviewed the situation in the area where the confrontation took place. He assured of peace and asked security personnel to take appropriate action to prevent any such incidents in the future. He also urged people not to use social media indiscriminately and instead urged us to contact him in his personal number if there are problems.”

The affected people in Telepati said, “We are Manipuris, whatever happens good or bad, we have to stay here together. I appeal to all to maintain peace.”

At least 4 vehicles were vandalised and one was burnt down. Security has been beefed up, Section 144 has been imposed and one company of CRPF has been deployed.
