Manipur ADC Bill Row: 12 Hour Shutdown in hill districts, protests in Delhi

The All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) has once again called for a shutdown in the hill districts of Manipur, demanding for the introduction of the Hill Areas Committee recommended ADC Bill, 2021 in the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The Apex Tribal Student Union has called for a complete shutdown in the entire hill districts of Manipur from 5 am till 5 pm today. The shutdown call is spearheaded by the ATSUM, the Kuki Students Organisation general headquarter and the All Naga Students Association Manipur.
Speaking to Northeast Live, ATSUM President, Paotinthang Lupheng, stated that the government has no authority to modify the ADC Bill draft once recommended by the Hills Area Committee and that the intensions of the Government to modify the bill is “dubious”.
ATSUM has also made it clear that the body will continue with its agitations until the Government yields.

Manipur tribals in Delhi under the aegis of Manipur Tribal Forum Delhi will also be organising a mass protest rally today in support of the collective tribal movement spearheaded by ATSUM, the KSO and the ANSAM.

It needs to be mentioned here that earlier in November, ATSUM had decided to call off an indefinite economic blockade after an agreement was reached with the state government. The government had announced that the bill will be tabled in the upcoming winter session in the assembly after completing the due process of law provided under the Constitution of India.
