Manipur: 11 Militants Involved in Extortion Activities Arrested in 2 Days

In a major crackdown on militant activities in Manipur, security forces and Manipur Police carried out a series of successful operations across the state, arresting a total of 11 active cadres belonging to different banned outfits. On April 14, central forces arrested three active members of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF-K) from the general area of Border Pillar 81 Sub Pillar 3 under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal District. The arrested cadres have been identified as Ningombam Shyam Singh, Chingangbam Johnson Meitei alias Angomcha Meitei, and Md. Sohel Khan.
On April 15, Manipur Police arrested one active member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Nongdrenkhomba), identified as Salam Sadananda Singh alias Igocha alias Pari, from a rented house at Kombirei Housing Complex under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West District. He was involved in extortion activities by serving monetary demands and threats to the general public in and around the Imphal area. Police seized one mobile handset and one Aadhaar card from his possession.
On the same day, security forces arrested four active cadres of the KCP (Apunba City Meitei) from Salungpham Mamang Leikai near the local bazaar under Heirok Police Station in Thoubal District. The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Saruk Khan and Sangomsumbam Akhter Ahamed, both from Thoubal Wangkhem Muslim locality; Kongjengbam Kumarjit Singh from Nambol Leimapokpam Awang Leikai, Bishnupur District; and Laishram Joymangol Singh from Kairembikhok Mamang Leikai, Thoubal District.
They were actively involved in extorting money from various business establishments and institutions in Thoubal District, including brick fields, saw mills, banks, hospitals, schools, colleges, petrol pumps, shops, stone crushers, and contractors. Security forces seized one .32 pistol with magazine and three live rounds, three high-explosive hand grenades (HE-36), five mobile handsets, one four-wheeler, and two two-wheelers from their possession.
Later the same day, Manipur Police arrested three active members of the Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) from Waithou Chiru in Imphal East District. The arrested cadres have been identified as Leishungbam Lenin Singh alias Khuman, Yumkhaibam Lukhoi Singh alias Aboi, and Sagolsem Dinesh Singh. They were found involved in extorting money from educational institutions in the Yairipok area. The police recovered three mobile handsets, one two-wheeler, and other miscellaneous items from them.
