Acting promptly on the complaint, police registered a case at the Women Police Station, Imphal East District, leading to the arrest of the victim’s husband.

The woman just 20 years old, mother of two children originally hails from Tangjing, Bishnupur district and resides in New Checkon, Imphal.

She was tied to a bed with her hands and legs bound, forced to drink wine against her will, and mercilessly assaulted, leaving her body covered in bruises from head to toe, including her face, arms, and legs.

Witnesses said she slipped in and out of consciousness, vomiting and barely able to respond, trapped in a state of semi-conscious trance.

Sources close to the family said that after hours of relentless abuse, her tormentors, fearing the worst, secretly dropped her near the Loktak Project Gate under the cover of darkness.

Later, her neighbours rushed her to Churachandpur District Hospital where she is now battling for her life.

Kuki-Zomi Civil bodies including the Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights have strongly condemned the incident.
