A man lost his life in a tragic man-elephant conflict in Digboi, Assam, late last night. The victim, identified as Nitya Sonowal from Lakhipathar Siring Mamoroni village, was trampled to death by an angry elephant. He had ventured out of his house when the incident occurred, resulting in his untimely death.

The Digboi region has been grappling with frequent human-elephant conflicts as herds of wild elephants often stray from nearby forests into human settlements in search of food. These unexpected encounters create panic among local residents, as the animals roam through village areas, damaging crops, homes, and sometimes leading to tragic fatalities.

Despite various measures taken by the forest department to prevent such conflicts, these efforts have largely failed to stop the movement of elephants into populated areas, highlighting the ongoing challenges in managing human-wildlife interactions in the region.
