In a bizarre incident during a virtual hearing in Gujarat High Court on June 20, a man attended proceedings while sitting on a toilet seat. The visuals have gone viral.
The man, who appeared in the Zoom meeting under the name “Samad Battery,” was seen sitting on a toilet seat with earphones plugged in during the session presided over by Justice Nirzar S Desai. The hearing was being conducted through videoconferencing.
In the one-minute video, the man is also seen placing his phone on the floor and cleaning himself during the ongoing session. Meanwhile, the advocate in the courtroom continued making his arguments before the judge. The court was hearing a matter related to a cheque bounce case.

According to a report by NDTV, the man was reportedly the complainant in the criminal case and was appearing as a respondent in a plea seeking the quashing of a First Information Report (FIR).
This is not the first time such an incident has taken place in the Gujarat High Court. In March this year, the court fined a man Rs. 2 lakh and ordered him to do community service after he joined proceedings from a lavatory. A month before that, another man was fined Rs. 25,000 for attending court while lying on his bed.
The latest incident has once again raised serious concerns about courtroom etiquette during virtual hearings and the growing need for stricter protocols.
