Tripura police have arrested a man suspected of drug trafficking and seized drugs valued at Rs 2 crore from his possession in Dhalai district.
Acting on a tip-off about a luxury car allegedly transporting drugs from Churaibari, the entry point to the state from Assam, a team from Ambasa Police Station set up a checkpoint in Bet Bagar on Friday night and conducted searches of vehicles passing through the area.
During the operation, police intercepted a vehicle and, upon thorough examination, recovered 80,000 Yaba tablets hidden within its structure, said Gurupada Debnath, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ambasa police station.
The estimated black market value of the seized drugs is around Rs 2 crore.
Following the recovery, the driver of the vehicle, identified as Rafique Miah, a resident of South Ramnagar in Agartala, was arrested.
A case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and he is currently being interrogated to identify others involved in the smuggling operation.
Police believe that uncovering Miah’s network could lead to further arrests and help dismantle drug trafficking operations in the region.
