Landslide hit Tura Civil Hospital building to reopen in 10 days: DC West Garo Hills

The patients and the equipment of the building have been shifted to a different facility
The annexe building of the Tura Civil Hospital which is on the verge of collapsing owing to a massive landslide right behind the facility would be re-opened in the next 10 days after the safety of the building is restored, West Garo Hills DC Jagdish Chelani told Northeast Live.
DC Jagdish Chelani said, ” We are expecting that working in double shifts with the people we are seeing a timeline of 7-8 days for the completion of the project and for the block to be operational again. At most, this will take us around 10 days to complete the work.”
Meanwhile, the patients and the equipment of the building have been shifted to a different facility.
“Although the building is in a safe position, but we are not taking any risk and shifted the patients to another facility. We hope the situation will be better within a week,” he added.
As per inputs, the landslide that occurred on March 27, has damaged the retaining wall that is now posing a threat to the hospital building. The situation worsened after the cyclonic storm on Thursday and the current situation, despite the repairs being undertaken.
Worth mentioning here is that on March 27, the Medical Superintendent of Tura Civil Hospital had written to the Chairman of the Disaster Management Authority urging the latter to take immediate action.
Following this, a joint inspection into the eroded retaining wall behind the new annexe building of Tura Civil Hospital was done by the District Disaster Management officer, West Garo Hills Tura and the Medical Superintendent of Tura Civil Hospital accompanied by Dr Debojit Sangma, senior medical and health officer Tura Civil hospital on March 31.
The team observed and recommended the urgent construction of the protection wall against the eroded retaining wall keeping in mind the risk to the lives of the employees as well as the patients and also residents just below the retaining walls.
The director of the health service was directed to take up the matter for urgent rectification by the DC and Chairman DDMA West Garo Hills district.
