Agartala frequently suffers from waterlogging during the rainy season, a challenge the current government has taken seriously.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday expressed concern over the lack of coordination between various departments and agencies, which he said is hindering the pace and quality of development work in Agartala.

During an extensive ground-level inspection of multiple ongoing infrastructure projects across different wards of the capital, the Chief Minister underscored the need for better synergy between the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Smart City Mission, Public Works Department (PWD), Flood Control, and Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS).

“What I have noticed is that there is some lack of coordination between AMC, Smart City Mission, PWD, and DWS. I have suggested that if work is carried out in a coordinated manner, the quality will improve significantly,” Saha said while inspecting the development activities. “I visited several wards and felt that most of the problems can be resolved with a little coordination.”

Accompanied by senior officials from the Urban Development Department, PWD, Flood Control, Smart City, DWS, AMC and the District Administration, the CM visited Wards 16, 20, and 32 under AMC, ahead of the monsoon season.

The inspection included evaluation of road construction, covered drainage systems, water pipeline installations, and flood mitigation measures.

Saha emphasized the urgency of completing most of the development work before the onset of the monsoon, acknowledging that although encroachment remains a major hurdle, the government is taking strict action to address it.

He noted encouraging progress in flood control initiatives and Smart City projects and directed officials to ensure the concerns of local residents are met.

Local residents appreciated the initiative of Saha and expressed that with the Chief Minister visiting and inspecting about the problems they have been facing will be resolved immediately.

Saha reiterated the state’s commitment to resolving the issue and claimed that noticeable improvements have already been made.
