Kokrajhar Man Trapped in Assam’s Umrangsu Coal Mine for Five Days Laid to Rest Amid Tears

The arrival of the body plunged the entire household and community into deep sorrow, with tears streaming from the eyes of loved ones.

The tragic journey of Khushimohan Roy, a laborer from Majergaon village of Chithila in Kokrajhar, ended in sorrow as his body finally arrived home at 3 a.m. on January 13.

Khushimohan, who had left for Umrangsu about a month and a half ago in search of work, had been employed in a coal mine when tragedy struck. While working in the mine, he became trapped under unforeseen circumstances. Despite rescue efforts, his body was recovered on the fifth day.

After completing the necessary autopsy procedures, his body was transported back to his village, where heartbroken family members and villagers gathered to mourn his untimely death. The arrival of the body plunged the entire household and community into deep sorrow, with tears streaming from the eyes of loved ones and well-wishers who came to offer their condolences.

Khushimohan leaves behind his elderly mother, Nitubala Roy, his wife, Madhubala Roy, and four children: two sons, Subit Rai and Subhash Rai, and two daughters, Rubita Roy, a higher secondary student at Shakti Ashram Higher Secondary School, and Subashree Roy, a Class VIII student at Chithila MP School.
