Kokrajhar-Bhutan Road to be Ready in 18 Months, Assures Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

The road connecting Kokrajhar with the Gelephu border in Bhutan will be renovated at a cost of Rs 26 crores.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that the road connecting Kokrajhar in Assam and Bhutan across the international border will be ready in 18 months.

Speaking to the media after visiting the India-Bhutan international border in Kokrajhar, CM Sarma said, “Today I reviewed the road construction and within 18 months we will try to complete the road construction.”

Further, taking to X, CM Sarma wrote, “Bolstering connectivity straight up to the Indo-Bhutan border. During an election rally I promised to construct the Saralpara Road till the Bhutan border to ensure connectivity and development. Today, I reviewed the progress and instructed timely completion of the road.”

The road connecting Kokrajhar with the Gelephu border in Bhutan will be renovated at a cost of Rs 26 crores.

Speaking about other development projects in Kokrajhar, the CM said, “As you know, on February 16, Assam cabinet approved the establishment of Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park. The park will be spread over 316.29 sq. km in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts between Raimona and Manas National parks. The move is aimed at conserving the region’s rich biodiversity”.

“Manash, Raimona, and Sikhna Jwhwlao are the three national parks that now exist in Boroland. In order to draw in more tourists, I urged the residents of Boroland to work toward maintaining these three national parks”, he added.

CM Sarma is in Kokrajhar for the Budget Session of the Assam Assembly that began today.
