Killed in Cold Blood: Bodies of 10-Month Old, 2 Toddlers, 3 Women Found in Gunny Bags; Protests Erupt Across Imphal

Three bodies were found late last night and the other three were found this morning sending shockwaves across the region.
Violence in Manipur has hit a new low. Three children – one as young as just 10-months old, and two aged 2 and half-year and an eight-year-old girl, along with their mothers and 60-year old grandmother were killed in cold blood. They were the family members of Manipur Police Constable L Herojit.
The bodies were found stuffed inside gunny bags. Three bodies were found late last night and the other three were found this morning sending shockwaves across the region.
Those killed were the 10-month old, and two and half-year sons and 25-year-old wife of Manipur Police Constable L Herojit and his 31-year-old sister-in-law, 8-year-old niece and 60-year-old mother-in-law.
The six were abducted on November 11 from Borobekra in Manipur’s Jiribam district by armed miscreants.
Constable Herojit is posted in Imphal but his family was living in a relief camp for displaced people located near the the CRPF camp at Borobekra in Jiribam district. They used to sleep in temporary sheds near the camp as they feared being attacked.
On November 11, armed miscreants attacked Borobekra, and set houses and crops on fire and opened fire on CRPF personnel. In retaliatory firing 10 armed men were killed. Later that night the 6 were abducted and was untraceable since.
Protests have erupted in Imphal. Women folk thronged the streets of Manipur’s capital city Imphal and vociferous protests took place as Emas (mothers in Manipuri) demanded justice for Constable Herojit and death for the murderers.
The iconic Ema Market is shut and multiple roads of the city has been blocked by protesting Emas. Smoke was seen billowing out from different spots as tyres were being burnt to register protest and block roads.
The killing of the innocent children marks a new low in violence in Manipur that has seen unrest and killings since May 3, 2023.
So far, at least 250 people have died, an equal number or more have been injured and over 60,000 have been displaced.
