Tennis Player Radhika Yadav: Police officials have confirmed that the father has been arrested and weapon used in the crime has been seized.
In a chilling case that has shocked everyone, 25-year-old state-level tennis player Radhika Yadav was shot dead by her father in Gurugram, Haryana, reportedly due to her “addiction” to making reels on Instagram and her father could not take it any longer.
The incident occurred around 10:30 am on Thursday at the family’s residence in Sushant Lok – II, Sector 57. According to police reports quoted by India Today, Radhika’s father fired five bullets at her, three of which hit her. She was rushed to a private hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Police officials have confirmed that the father has been arrested and the weapon used in the crime has been seized. Preliminary findings suggest that he was enraged by what he perceived as his daughter’s excessive use of Instagram, particularly her reel-making activity.
“We received information from the hospital that a 25-year-old woman had died due to gunshot injuries. Further inquiry led us to discover that her father had opened fire on her,” said an officer from Gurugram’s Sector 56 police station, as quoted by Hindustan Times.
Radhika Yadav was not just another young woman on social media. According to tenniskhelo.com, she was a ranked tennis player in the ITF doubles category, peaking at 113, and had won several state-level competitions. Born on March 23, 2000, her promising career has now ended in tragedy.
This horrifying incident has once again raised several pertinent questions like the younger generation’s addiction to making reels, their obsession with Instragram and other social media platforms, parental control and parenting and is it correct for a parent to lose his/ her cool and kill a child over such obsession.
