Sikkim: Khas Youth of Sikkim, SENSA condemn attack on Keshav Sapkota, an ex-Navy personnel

Khas Youth of Sikkim, Sikkim Ex Naval Sailors Association (SENSA) and the former president of Sikkimey Nagrik Samaaj have strongly condemned the gruesome attack on Keshav Sapkota, Ex-Indian Navy personnel in Singtam yesterday during the Joint Action Council (JAC)’s rally against the expansion of the term ‘Sikkimese’ in the amended Finance Act, 2023.
Condemning the violence, Sikkim Ex Naval Sailors Association (SENSA) requested the state government to ensure that Ex-Servicemen should get the honor and pride they earned by sacrificing the beautiful phase of their life for the nation.
SENSA said that attacking the Ex-Servicemen in broad daylight is a matter of serious concern and disrespect to Ex-Servicemen.
It said that Keshav Sapkota has once safeguarded our country and given precious time of his life to the nation by serving the motherland. He ensured a high degree of professionalism and dedication for fellow countrymen to sleep peacefully at home.
Condemning the attack of Sapkota, Khas Youth of Sikkim said in a statement, “This life-threatening attack by members of the ruling party shows that they are working against the interests of the Khas community and Sikkimese at large and we totally condemn this show of violence against a leader of our community using people from outside the state.”
The youth body also publicly denounced any Khas MLAs or Ministers who have not resigned following the attack on Keshav Sapkota and said that it will not vote for an anti-Sikkimese party.
In a letter to Governor Laxuman Prasad Acharya, former president of Sikkimey Nagrik Samaaj, Bharat Basnett has urged the Governor to take appropriate action against those perpetrators/attackers/conspirators in accordance with the law and prove his power of a constitutional guarantor of Sikkim.
Bharat Basnett further stated that the law and order has been totally collapsed in the state and that yesterday’s incident of Singtam is an open witness to the nation. Adding that if proper action is not taken in time it might have counter consequences in near future. He said, “national security and integrity is above all. “
At least four persons have been arrested so far in connection with the incident of violence in Singtam. Among the arrested is Suresh Tamang, president of the Singtam Municipal Corporation, said to be the main accused in the violence.
