Kalimpong school shines at Basel Tattoo in Switzerland

The Basel Tattoo is considered to be one of the biggest military music festivals attended by military bands from around the globe.
In a proud moment for the country, a school band from Kalimpong, the Kumudini homes school pipes and drums band represented India at the Basel Tattoo in Switzerland.

The group of around 20 students created history by being the only school band from India in the international program.
The Kumudini contingent was invited by the Swiss federal department of defense, civil protection, and sports, organizers of the Basel Tattoo. It is considered to be the second biggest military music festival after Edinburgh Tattoo in Scotland.
Basel Tattoo is an annual military tattoo show performed by International military bands, display teams, popular musicians, and tattoo formations in Basel, Switzerland.
Since 2006, Basel Tattoo has had annual stage-arena performances within the Basel Kaserne (old barracks) (now also known as Basel Tattoo Arena) and hosts two parades in July. The Basel Tattoo parade, with an estimated 125,000 visitors, is considered the largest event
Started in 2006 by the local Top Secret Drum Corps, it has grown to be the world’s second-largest military tattoo in terms of performers and budget after the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
