The Meghalaya Police on Monday recovered three INSAS rifles snatched by masked men on August 15.

Acting on specific inputs, the Meghalaya police along with personnel of the fire and emergency services recovered the weapons from the Wahumkhrah river.

The search operation was carried out by the State Rescue Team (SRT) of the state police after an anonymous letter claiming that the three rifles were dumped into Wahumkhrah.

It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya Police swung into action after an anonymous letter was sent to a local media house in Shillong, mentioning that the rifles were dumped into the river.

While the Meghalaya police had earlier downplayed the anonymous letter, it launched an operation yesterday leading to the recovery of the weapons.
