Indo-Myanmar Border: BRO Begins Border Fencing in Tengnoupal District

First Published: 14th December, 2024 18:05 IST

This development comes in the backdrop of the Indian government’s decision to remove the Free Movement Regime.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has begun the border fencing construction in Tengnoupal district, Manipur, as part of its ongoing Project Sewak.

The construction is focused on key areas in and around Moreh, a strategic town that shares a major portion of its boundary with Myanmar.

This development comes in the backdrop of the Indian government’s decision to remove the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border.

The move aims to tighten control over the sensitive border region, which has been plagued by issues such as illegal activities, cross-border trafficking, and unauthorised movements.

The fencing work is expected to significantly curb unauthorised cross-border activities while improving surveillance and control in the area.
