The decision was taken following a high-level meeting with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in New Delhi.
In a major boost for Assam’s aviation network, IndiGo Airlines has announced that it would cover more locations in Assam and expand air connectivity across the state. The decision was taken following a high-level meeting with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in New Delhi.
Highlighting the growing demand for better regional air links, CM Sarma urged the airline to expand services to key locations such as Silchar, Dibrugarh, and North Lakhimpur.
Among the major announcements, the Delhi–Dibrugarh flight will now include a stopover in Guwahati, enabling convenient morning connectivity between two of Assam’s most important cities. Responding to long-standing public demand, a new morning Guwahati–Silchar flight is also set to be introduced.
Further, a Guwahati–Navi Mumbai service will commence from the Winter 2025–26 schedule, providing improved access to western India.
Additionally, IndiGo will evaluate the possibility of scheduled operations from Lilabari Airport in North Lakhimpur, potentially bringing Upper Assam closer to the national air grid.
Sharing the update on platform X, CM Sarma said, “Expanding Assam’s Air Network with IndiGo… I urged them to enhance air connectivity to key locations across Assam — particularly Silchar, Dibrugarh, and North Lakhimpur.”
These developments, alongside the soon-to-launch Delhi–Jorhat direct flight, reflect a strategic push to enhance regional mobility. CM Sarma expressed gratitude to IndiGo for its prompt and positive response.
