The union government plans 100 per cent telecom connectivity in all the 24,000 villages across India in the next 12 months.

India has launched a massive drive to boost telecom infra in Arunachal Pradesh, a move seen as an attempt to boost connectivity in the sensitive frontier region.

DONER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia who was in Guwahati today said that the Centre is giving a significant push to telecom infrastructure in the bordering areas of the frontier state. The DoNER minister’s statement comes amid reports stating that China is going ballistic with telecom and other physical infrastructure projects in its areas along its border with Arunachal.

“The Prime Minister is committed. I am monitoring the scheme (Telecom Saturation Scheme) myself. Already, of the 24,000-25,000 villages across India being covered under the scheme, 13,000-14,000 villages have been connected. Over the next 12 months all the villages including the ones in northeast will be connected with a mix of technology under the Telecom Saturation Scheme,” Scindia said adding that the use to technology to provide connectivity will depend on the accessibility.

The Government might use RANS, BTS, VSAT and also some satellite technology where accessibility is an issue, to ensure that all villages have 100% saturation with regard to telecom connectivity.

The Union Government plans 100 per cent telecom connectivity all the 24,000-25,000 villages in the next 12 months.

Scindia, who is also the Union minister for Communications, said special funds have been sanctioned by the Union Cabinet for the purpose.
