CM Sangma said that the resolution has not been passed yet and the public is exaggerating the problem
Reacting to the alleged “renaming” of India to Bharat which has sparked widespread controversy across the country, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that there is no controversy over the issue, controversy is being created.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that he uses both India and Bharat in his speeches, and there is nothing wrong in whatever way the country is addressed. The Chief Minister said that Bharat term has always been there in the Constitution, and how we use it depends on the language we use to communicate.
CM Sangma said that the resolution has not been passed yet and the public is exaggerating the problem.
President Droupadi Murmu’s invitation to foreign leaders to the recently held G20 conference in New Delhi sparked controversy since it referred to her as the “president of Bharat,” the Sanskrit word for India.
The use of Bharat in a diplomatic invitation has raised concerns that the Hindu-nationalist government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi intends to eliminate the official usage of the nation’s English name India.
As per reports, the Modi government has convened a five-day special session of parliament later this month to put forward a special resolution to give precedence to using the name Bharat.
