Chasing a target of 305, South Africa was reduced to 182/7 at lunch. At the post-lunch session, Mohammed Shami took the first wicket, and R Ashwin took the final two wickets in a row to help India register the win at Centurion. For South Africa, Temba Bavuma stayed not out on 35.

The Proteas got off to a good start, collecting runs at a quick pace before captain Dean Elgar was dismissed on 77 by Jasprit Bumrah. Mohammed Siraj followed suit by cleaning up Quinton de Kock on 21. Wiaan Mulder was the third wicket taken by Shami in the first session. Earlier on the evening of the fourth day, Bumrah’s twin strikes put India on the verge of their first triumph in Centurion. They had already played two Tests in South Africa’s stronghold, both of which had ended in defeat.

Taking on Twitter, BCCI wrote, “#TeamIndia go 1-0 up in the series with their first-ever Test win at Centurion. #SAvIND”
Honorary Secretary of BCCI Jay Shah also congratulated Team India for their fabulous victory at Centurion. Taking to Twitter, Shah wrote,” Congratulations to #TeamIndia on a fabulous victory at Centurion despite a day being washed out due to rain. 2021 has been a phenomenal year with many famous away Test wins in Brisbane, Lord’s, and The Oval.”
