Incessant Rains Continue in NE: Flood Situation in Assam Remains Grim. Rescue Ops Underway in Landslide Hit Army Camp in Sikkim. Schools Remain Shut in Mizoram

The flood situation in Assam continues to be grim with 22 districts reeling under flood waters. The worst affected districts are Lakimpur, Dhemaji, Nagaon, Biswanath, Sribhumi, Hailakandi and Cachar. So far eleven people have died amid the flood fury in Assam. One person lost his life due to flood in Hojai in last 24 hours.The river Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Tezpur and Nimagighat in Jorhat.
Other rivers such as Burhidihing, Dhansisi, Kapili, Barak, Kusiara and Subansiri are also flowing in full spate above the danger mark inundating surrounding areas.
As per the latest flood bulletin issued by Assam State Disaster Management Authority a population of 515039 remains affected in 64 Revenue Circles.
31212 people are taking shelter in 165 relief camps. Additionally 157 relief distribution centers have also been opened up. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma onTusday visited flood affected areas in Silchar and took stock of the situation and talked to the flood affected people.
In Sikkim Rescue operations are underway on a war footing at Chaten in Lachen distrcit, where a devastating landslide struck an Army camp on Monday, killing 3 people including 2 Army-men and a porter. At-least 6 others, including a Lieutenant Colonel and his wife and daughter are missing in the disaster.
Meanwhile, in response to the disaster in North Sikkim, a MI-17 V-5 helicopter has landed at Pakyong Greenfield Airport, deploying teams from the National Disaster Response Force. The NDRF units are equipped with satellite phones and essential emergency equipment.
The first sortie of the day, comprising 23 NDRF personnel equipped with essential supplies, has successfully proceeded towards Chaten from Pakyong Greenfield Airport. The deployment aims to bolster on-ground efforts in the remote region, where access has been severely hampered due to the disaster. The teams will aid in evacuation, rescue and the establishment of temporary communication lines to assist affected residents.
Authorities have issued directives to explore alternate foot-access routes and assess the feasibility of helipad operations, depending on prevailing weather conditions. Efforts are made to reach isolated communities and ensure timely aid.
In Mizoram schools in capital Aizawl will remain closed for the fourth consecutive on Tuesday.Authorities have cited risks of landslides, mudflows, and structural failures, with closures ordered under the Disaster Management Act.
Continuous rainfall has prompted authorities to issue the order. Meanwhile, schools in Lunglei, Serchhip, Champhai, and Hnahthial districts have also been shut for safety.
