Mizoram registered 46 new positive cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the overall tally to 88. This is the biggest single-day jump in coronavirus cases in the state.

The positive cases were reported in two phases with 29 in the first phase and 17 in the late evening.

With the detection of 17 fresh cases till 6:15 PM, the total number of positive cases in the state climbed to 46. Out of 459 tested samples, 17 persons in the age group of 22-33 years tested positive for the virus. The fresh cases include 15 from Lunglei and 2 from Aizawl.

Mizoram DIPR in their official Twitter handle informed, “From 459 samples tested since yesterday, 17 more +ve cases (Lunglei – 15, Aizawl – 2) in the age group 22-33 years confirmed after the last update at 4:30 PM. Total cases detected today is 46 (till 6:15 PM). 31 males and 15 females. Cumulative active cases as of now stand at 87.”

Earlier, 29 more positive cases of COVID-19 (16 Males and 13 Females aged between 18 to 28) were reported in Mizoram. All fresh cases were detected at the Zoram Medical College (ZMC) lab.

Of the confirmed cases, 28 are from Lunglei District, 1 belongs to Lawngtlai District. They are under quarantine and reportedly asymptomatic.

All positive patients have returned to the state from other parts of the country. Of the returnees, 2 are from West Bengal, 4 from Goa, 18 from Delhi, 2 from Haryana, 2 from Chattisgarh and 1 from Maharashtra.

It may be mentioned that the first COVID-19 person in Mizoram has recovered fully and has been discharged from hospital. The State has not witnessed any death so far.
