IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall Across Assam Over Next 2–3 Days

Brace for more rain as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued inclement weather across Assam for the next 2 to 3 days, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in several parts of the state.

Several parts of Guwahati is already waterlogged since early morning due to overnight rains that the city has been experiencing, severely impacting daily life across the city.

Areas such as Rajgarh, Nabin Nagar, Lachit Nagar, Rukminigaon, Downtown, and Chandmari are among the worst affected, with streets submerged, slow-moving traffic, and disruptions in public transport.

Office-goers and students of schools, colleges faced significant delays and hardships, as waterlogged roads led to traffic bottlenecks and restricted vehicular movement. Pedestrians were also seen wading through knee-deep water in several localities.

According to IMD, Guwahati city has already received over 110 mm in multiple areas.

The IMD has warned that Western and Southern Assam are likely to experience more intense rainfall in the coming days, with isolated locations potentially receiving up to 200 mm.

In Guwahati, continued downpours may lead to waterlogging, traffic delays, and increased risks of tree falls and localised landslides, especially in hillside and low-lying areas.

City authorities are on high alert, closely monitoring the situation. Emergency response teams have been placed on standby, and citizens are being urged to exercise caution.

The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, stay alert to flood and landslide warnings and follow all advisories issued by local authorities.

The public is also encouraged to keep track of official weather updates and take all necessary precautions to stay safe during this extended period of rainfall.
