Illegal Bangladeshi immigrant held; infiltration worries Manipur CM

Earlier, CM N. Biren had said that his government will soon launch house to house survey to identify and root-out illegal migrants.

Infiltration of illegal migrants into Manipur has now posed to be a big threat. In fact Chief Minister N Biren Singh has himself said that the prevailing situation surrounding influx has become a matter of grave concern.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh further added that this type of infiltration is not only a matter of concern for the state but also a threat to national security.

The Manipur Chief Minister said this, after the arrest of an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh was re-arrested during an Inner Line Permit verification drive of non-locals.

The illegal Bangladeshi migrant was apprehended by a team of Lilong police near Lilong Keithel in Thoubal district from a scrap dealer shop.

The arrested individual has been identified as one Mohammad Ramjan Ali, 35, son of Md Jalaluddin, hailing from Piyali Mari of Chapainawabganj district in Bangladesh.

On further interrogation, Ramjan Ali revealed that earlier he was arrested on April 19, 2021 for possessing an invalid passport with date of expiry as November 18, 2017.

He was sent to judicial custody on April 26, 2021, and was released by the court of JMFC, Thoubal on February 10, 2022.

On October 17 it came to light that another illegal Bangladeshi immigrant identified as Md. Anwar was arrested from Khabesoi after he was found living in the state for more than 30 years by impersonating as a local.

Citing the instance of Anwar’s arrest, the Manipur Chief Minister had said that his government will soon launch house to house survey to identify and root-out illegal migrants. Chief Minister N. Biren said that once the State Population is constituted the entire for detecting illegal migrants would begin.
