Minister Hek emphasised that the goal is justice, and Meghalaya will not tolerate injustice.

Meghalaya Cabinet Minister A.L. Hek has responded to allegations of mishandling in the case of the missing Indore tourist Sonam Raghuvanshi and the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, stating that if the victim’s family does not trust the state police, they are free to approach central or even international agencies, as the government has no objection.

Minister Hek emphasised that the goal is justice, and Meghalaya will not tolerate injustice.

“If you do not trust the Meghalaya police, you can approach central agencies or even international agencies. We do not have any problem. We just want justice and never tolerate injustice,” said the Minister.

He also said that the people of Meghalaya are peace-loving, and while a few incidents may have occurred, the state consistently strives for peace.

“People of Meghalaya are all peace-loving citizens. One, or two incidents happened, but Meghalaya people always want peace in the state as well as the country,” he added.

The search for Sonam Raghuvanshi entered its 15th day today. Her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, was found dead earlier in a decomposed state near Weisawdong Falls at the Riat Arliang parking lot in Umblai, Sohra.

While Sonam remains untraceable, a new twist emerged recently after a tourist guide from Mawlakhiat claimed to have seen the couple with 3 men on their way back to the Mawlakhiat parking lot.

As per the guide, Raja and Sonam had reportedly arrived at Mawlakhiat on May 22, rented a two-wheeler from Shillong, and stayed the night at Shipara Homestay in Nongriat.

The guide confirmed that he interacted with the couple on the evening of May 22 and offered to accompany them as a guide but they declined.

However, he distinctly recalled seeing them again the next morning around 10 a.m., heading uphill towards the parking lot.

Sonam was trailing slightly behind Raja, who was engaged in a seemingly friendly conversation with 3 tourists speaking in Hindi.

It needs to be mentioned that, Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam, who were visiting Meghalaya for their honeymoon, went missing from Sohra (Cherrapunji) on May 23. The couple had last been seen after checking out of a homestay in Nongriat, accompanied by a local guide.

Their abandoned scooty was later found near Sohrarim, triggering a large-scale search operation.

Yesterday, CCTV footage of Sonam and Raja leaving the homestay on the scooty has emerged showing Sonam wearing a red and black jacket which looked similar to the one that police recovered from the site where Raja’s decomposed body was found.

Earlier, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that Indore tourist Raja Raghuvanshi, whose decomposed body was recovered on June 2, was murdered. However, SonamRaghuvanshi is still missing.
