The wedding, set for July 12 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), has led to skyrocketing prices at luxury hotels
Room rates at Mumbai’s top luxury hotels are shooting through the roof. You ask why? Well, its because ahead of the big fat Ambani wedding (Anant Ambani and Rahika Merchant getting married on July 12) all the best hotels in the Maximum City are already booked.
If you are hoping to check in at hotels like Four Seasons Mumbai, you will have to shell out a whopping Rs 5 lakh per night for the Hotel’s presidential suite that usually costs about Rs 1,50,000 plus taxes.
According to The Economic Times report, the Trident in Bandra Kurla has no available rooms from July 11-12, while the Sofitel Mumbai BKC charges Rs 66,434 for a night on July 11. The Trident at Nariman Point offers rooms at Rs 36,875 for the same date, and the ITC Grand Central’s rate stands at Rs 25,370. The Oberoi Mumbai is charging Rs 63,130, and Taj The Trees has rooms available for Rs 42,362. A room at Holiday Inn near the Mumbai International Airport costs Rs 25,699.
According to CNBCTV18, rates at some hotels have skyrocketed. A hotel that typically charges Rs 13,000 is now quoting Rs 91,350 per night on July 14. This dramatic price hike reflects the high-profile nature of the wedding, attracting guests from around the world.
The publication also revealed that the main hotels in BKC are fully booked according to travel and hotel websites. Room rates at the Trident BKC stand at Rs 10,250 per night plus taxes on July 9, rising to Rs 16,750 plus taxes on July 15, and Rs 13,750 plus taxes on July 16. Rooms are marked “sold out” from July 10 to 14 on the hotel’s website. The Trident BKC is sold out for July 11, and other hotels like the Sofitel, JW Marriott, and The Leela are witnessing a 25-30% price increase.
A spokesperson for a luxury hotel while talking to Economic Times, commented on the demand and rate hikes, attributing it to the scarcity of luxury hotels, “International chains work on dynamic pricing. We are nearly sold out for the week. Suites are seeing high demand because of the high-profile nature of the guests. We expect rates to stabilise and come back to normal after July 20.”
The impact of the wedding celebrations extends beyond the wedding date. The Four Seasons is charging Rs 27,730 for a stay on July 15, and the Sofitel Mumbai BKC is available for Rs 24,638. On the weekend, the JW Marriott in Juhu has rooms for Rs 23,600 on July 13, while Taj Lands End offers accommodations for Rs 21,028, as per reports filed by Business Today.
