Historic Bodo Peace Accord signed in New Delhi

The historic tri-partite peace agreement between the four factions of the proscribed Assam-based insurgent group, the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), the Centre and Assam government has been signed.

The accord was signed between the Centre, the Assam government, all factions of NDFB, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary among others.

Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and health, finance and education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma were present as the Centre signed the tripartite agreement with the representatives of factions of banned organisations.

It may be mentioned that as many as 9 Bodo groups and outfits including the four factions of the NDFB are signatories to the Bodo Accord.

As per the agreement, 1550 cadres will lay down arms on January 30th paving way for permanent peace in the area.

The Centre has also promised all its promises in a stipulated period of time. Rs 1500 crore will be sanctioned as a economic package to BTAD areas.

Significantly Union Home Minister Shah also said under the accord the rights and areas of the BTAD will increase. However, in the same breath Shah said a committee will be formed to take a call on that. Special steps will be taken to promote and protect Bodo culture, tradition and identity.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah also said that the accord will resolve the long pending Bodoland issue.
