High-Earning Jobs Await Nurses from Tripura as State Launches Japanese Language Program, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma Inaugurates Seminar

Tripura Launches Japanese Language Program: A total of 24 qualified nurses have enrolled, which costs around Rs 3.5 lakh per candidate.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, a specialized counselling seminar was launched in Agartala on Sunday to guide trained nurses interested in learning Japanese and securing employment in Japan. The program, organised by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in collaboration with Japan-based NAVIS-HR, aims to provide lucrative overseas job opportunities while boosting India’s foreign exchange earnings.
The seminar was inaugurated by Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, chairman of the Advisory and Reforms Committee of TTAADC, who lit a ceremonial lamp to mark the occasion. Takako Oshibuchi, CEO of NAVIS-HR, along with other dignitaries, was also present at the event.
A total of 24 qualified nurses have enrolled in the program, which costs around Rs 3.5 lakh per candidate. To make the opportunity more accessible, TTAADC is providing a Rs 60,000 subsidy, while the remaining amount will be deducted from their salaries once they secure employment in Japan. Successful candidates will be placed in high-paying nursing jobs, where they can earn an average monthly salary exceeding Rs 1 lakh, significantly improving their financial stability.
This initiative is expected to open new avenues for healthcare professionals in Tripura, fostering economic empowerment through global career opportunities.
Addressing the gathering, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma highlighted the immense demand for healthcare professionals in Japan due to its ageing population. He emphasised that while Tripura has a large pool of qualified but unemployed nurses, this initiative provides them with a pathway to secure stable, high-paying jobs.
“Japan has an ageing population, and they need nurses and caregivers. They don’t have enough people to look after them. Tripura has enough nurses who are qualified but are not getting jobs in the state or the rest of India. Now, if they learn the Japanese language, they will be placed in different parts of Japan, where they can earn up to Rs 2–2.5 lakh a month,” Debbarma stated.
Explaining the financial aspect of the program, he added, “Their entire training in Bangalore will cost around Rs 3.5 lakh, out of which Rs 60,000 will be financed from our side. The remaining amount will not be taken from the students. Only after they get placed and start earning a salary will a portion of it be deducted on a monthly basis.”
Encouraging more nurses to enrol, he said, “I want our people to earn more, be more proficient, and have a better future. Currently, nurses working in private setups earn only Rs 10,000–15,000, while government jobs also offer limited pay. Learning Japanese will allow them to earn nearly 20 times more than what they do now.”
Earlier this month, six nursing students from Tripura secured high-paying jobs in Japan after completing a nine-month Japanese language training program under the state government’s Mukhyamantri Dakhyata Prakalpa.
Under this scheme, the Directorate of Skill Development, Government of Tripura, in collaboration with NSDC International, has been preparing nurses for overseas employment through residential language and nursing training in Greater Noida, followed by certification exams and interviews.
This latest initiative further strengthens Tripura’s efforts to upskill its workforce and facilitate international career prospects for its healthcare professionals.
