In the finals on January 5, Nagaland will face Arunachal Pradesh and eam Goa will play against Tamil Nadu
The Nagaland football team managed to remain at the top of the Hero Santosh Trophy 2022-23 being played in Kokrajhar, Assam.
In the match played on Tuesday, the Nagaland team played well enough and saved two potential goals from the Goa team. This helped them to stay on top of the charts of the 76th National Football Championship.
In the match, Nagaland coach Mughato Aye sent out a defensive team with goalkeeper Niethovilie Chalieu who saved the two crucial goals for the Nagaland team.
In the last match of the tournament on January 5, Nagaland will face Arunachal Pradesh. Team Goa will play against Tamil Nadu.
In the last four matches, team Nagaland continued to lead the Group 3 tally with 10 points (+4 goal difference) and Goa (+2 goal difference) is behind with 8 points.
Notably, Nagaland has never qualified for the final round of the Santosh Trophy, and it will be historic if the team can keep the momentum going with just one match remaining.
In the 76th edition of the Santosh Trophy, a total of six states — Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Goa, Nagaland, and Uttar Pradesh, are participating in the tournament being organised jointly by the Bodoland Territorial Council, the Assam Football Association (AFA), and the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
