‘Meritocracy is Dead, Have Trust Issues with the Govt’: CTAN and NNQF on Regularisation of 147 Posts

Meritocracy is dead in Nagaland. This is what the Combined Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) and Nagaland Net Qualified Forum (NNQF) are saying. Adding an interesting and smart twist to their protest against the regularization of 147 Assistant Professors and librarians, the two organisations brought a dummy coffin to their protest today.
The aggrieved protestors held a funeral service mourning the death of “Meritocracy”. The protestors wore black symbolizing the death of Meritocracy. The coffin with the words “RIP MERITOCRACY” was placed outside the education department’s office.
The CTAN and NNQF are unhappy with the Nagaland government’s decision to regularise the 147 contractual assistant professors and librarians. Their simple demand, the government should scrap the regularisation decision.
Representatives of CTAN) and NNQF said that they have “trust issues” with the government and are not willing to wait two months for a decision on the 147 assistant professors and librarians.
“We cannot wait for two months for the committee’s report. We have a trust issue with the government. If they can violate their own service rules, how can we believe in their promises?” CTAN Convenor Meshenlo Kath said after their meeting with Nagaland Chief Secretary J Alam, Home Commissioner, and other senior officials at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat in Kohima.
Kath said the Chief Secretary appealed for patience, urging the organisations to wait for the report of a high-level committee that has been formed to examine the issue. However, both CTAN and NNQF made their stand clear that they will not accept any delay and demanded immediate transfer of the posts to the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC).
He acknowledged that the ongoing street protests are mentally and physically draining for the participants but affirmed their commitment to continue the agitation. “This fight for justice must go on,” he said.
Kath also revealed that Nagaland’s Higher Education Minister, Temjen Imna Along, has informally approached some members of the organisations and expressed interest in holding a separate meeting with them to discuss the matter further.
It is important to note that the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) had earlier issued a seven-day ultimatum to the government, demanding a rollback of the regularisation move.
Reacting to pressure from these key organisations, the State Cabinet decided to keep its earlier decision of regularising 147 assistant professor and librarians on hold, marking a significant development in the ongoing standoff between the government and the protesting bodies.
