Govt Driver-Turned-Burglar Bought Land, Vehicles with Stolen Money, Nagaland DGP Shares Details of How He Robbed Colleges, Automobile Showrooms and KMC

Speaking to the media, Nagaland DGP Sharma said that Solo is currently in police custody following his arrest by Kohima Police on June 20.
Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma on Thursday revealed that Kekietuo Solo, the man who stole close to Rs 2 crore from colleges, automobile showrooms and Kohima Municipal Corporation, used the stolen money to buy land and vehicles.
Speaking to the media, DGP Sharma said that Solo is currently in police custody following his arrest by Kohima Police on June 20. “He admitted to the 11 cases of burglary. It appears that he committed the crimes alone. However, we are checking if there is anyone else,” Sharma said.
Explaining Solo’s modus operandi, the DGP said, “He committed the burglaries mostly in the evenings after 7 p.m. He had purchased his own housebreaking tools. He either walked to the target location or used a vehicle, but parked it far from the crime scene. He never carried his mobile phone during the burglary, it was always left in his vehicle. He always operated alone, which helped him avoid detection for a long time.”
The DGP added that Solo’s lavish spending was a major clue for investigators. “His spending spree, buying land and vehicles, definitely alerted the police teams. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by SP Kohima did a commendable job in identifying and arresting him,” he said.
Sharma congratulated the SIT team and called the breakthrough a major success. “It’s a wonderful job. Catching a person after 11 serious crimes is no small feat,” he said.
DGP Sharma also addressed the state’s extortion situation. He said that extortion cases have gone down for now, but cautioned that it is often seasonal in Nagaland. “We are keeping our fingers crossed. This might be an off-season. But during this lull, we are preparing for the period when extortion usually spikes. For now, things are under control,” he added.
