Gaurav Gogoi Out of Anti-Pak MPs Delegation After Assam CM Raises Objection

They were Anand Sharma, former Union Cabinet Minister, Gaurav Gogoi, Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain, Rajya Sabha MP and Raja Brar, Lok Sabha MP.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has got a shot in the arm after the Centre rejected Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi from being part of the high-level political delegations to visit global destinations to present India’s stand against terrorism after the Pahalgam terror attack.

Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has accused the Assam MP and Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, of visiting Pakistan and not informing the authorities about his activity there. Dr Sarma has been daring Gogoi to come clean on his Pakistan visit and his wife Elizabeth Colburn’s Pakistan connection.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has said in a post on X Yesterday that following a request from Parliamentary Affairs minister Kiren Rijiju, the Congress party had forwarded four names to the government. They were Anand Sharma, former Union Cabinet Minister, Gaurav Gogoi, Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain, Rajya Sabha MP and Raja Brar, Lok Sabha MP.

However, it is now seen that only Anand Sharma has been included in one of the delegations from the list given by the Congress high command. The other Congress leaders in the delegations appears to have been chosen by the government on its own. They include Shashi Tharoor, who heads the delegation to the United States and a few other nations, Manish Tiwari, Dr Amar Singh and few others.

Already, there are murmurs within the Congress with Shashi Tharoor being almost accused by the party of not consulting it’s leaders before accepting the government’s request to lead one of the delegations.

But, the biggest setback from the Congress’ point of view is the government’s decision not to include Gaurav Gogoi in the delegation despite his name being put forward by the party top brass.

Meanwhile Assam Chief Minsiter Himanta Biswa Sarma is slated to meet the Special Investigation Team of the Assam Police which is probing Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi’s alleged Pakistan links. As per sources, the SIT will brief the Assam CM on the probe so far and the evidences that have been gathered so far. There is also a possibility that the SIT may soon question Gaurav Gogoi and his wife as well on the matter.
