The row over the appointment of Rakesh Sangma as the CEM of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council is getting bigger by the day with even Chief Minister Conrad Sangma now facing the heat over the issue.

In fact CM Conrad Sangma was shown black flags today by a group of protesters comprising pressure group members among others in Ampati. CM Sangma was passing through the area while on his way to Rerapara to lay base for a C& RD block. The protesters shouted slogans stating Go Back, to the Chief Minister’s Convoy as it passed through the area.

Meanwhile, in Rajabala area, effigies of the Chief Minister and CEM Rakesh Sangma were burnt by protesters.

It may be mentioned that pressure groups from Garo Hills are demanding the removal of CEM Rakesh Sangma accusing him of not following Garo customs. The pressure groups were called for a round of talks by the West Garo Hills district administration but the meeting remained inconclusive. CM Conrad Sangma has defended Rakesh Sangma’s appointment as CEM.
