The committee had called for the general strike over the delay in calling for the special assembly session by the cabinet. The committee had further said they would stage sit in protest in front of the residences of 27 MLAs from 6th August demanding Special Assembly Session. However, while the general strike is currently underway, the official recommendation from the Manipur cabinet has come in seeking a special session of the assembly on August 21.
The effects of the general strike are being seen in Imphal with commercial establishments largely shut down and roads also having a largely deserted look.
Effects of the general strike is also being seen in the Thoubal and Kumbi constituencies.
It may be mentioned that the UNC has already directed the Naga MLAs not to attend any assembly session held due to alleged diktat of valley-based CSOs and groups.
