Fresh Landslides Disrupt Train Services on Assam’s Lumding–Badarpur Route Again, Thousands Stranded

Meanwhile, passengers are facing extreme hardship, with limited access to food, water, and shelter.
Train services along Assam’s Lumding–Badarpur hill section were suspended once again from Sunday morning following fresh landslides at two locations, between Maibang and Daotuhaja, and between Mupa and Dihakho.
This fresh disruption comes just days after services had resumed on Friday following an earlier landslide that occurred between Dihakho and Mupa stations. That incident had already caused major interruptions, just a day after trains began operating again following a 10-day-long suspension due to heavy landslides in the region.
The latest landslides have thrown train schedules into chaos, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at various locations:
The Guwahati–Rangiya Express is stranded at Hatikhali station
The Guwahati–Silchar Express is stuck at Lumding station
The Guwahati–Dullabchhara train is halted at Langting station
The Agartala–Deoghar Express was standing at New Haflong station at 3 AM
The Silchar–Guwahati Express, which departed Silchar at 9 AM, is running two hours late and may also be stuck at New Haflong
The Sealdah–Silchar Kanchenjunga Express is running six hours late and is likely to be held at Lumding station
Railway teams are currently working on a war footing to clear the debris and restore the line, but officials say it may take several hours to complete the restoration work. Meanwhile, passengers are facing extreme hardship, with limited access to food, water, and shelter.
The Lumding–Badarpur section, which is a lifeline for Barak Valley, Tripura, Mizoram, and Manipur, remains highly vulnerable during the monsoon due to its hilly terrain and frequent landslides.
