Fresh Clashes in Churachandpur: Fresh violence erupted in Churachandpur district last evening despite prohibitory orders, leaving the town tense and on high alert. As per reports, groups of unidentified individuals marched toward Churachandpur town from two directions Tuibong and Rengkai and launched attacks on residents in the main town areas.

Security forces responded swiftly, intercepting the mobs at multiple locations and chasing them away to prevent further escalation. However, the situation remained tense as large groups of youths gathered at different parts of the town, preparing to fight back against the attackers.

Fresh Clashes in Churachandpur

The violence started around 7:30 pm yesterday when mobs attempted to enter the town from the outskirts, causing widespread panic among residents. Security personnel tried to control the situation, but the sudden and coordinated nature of the attacks made it difficult to contain the chaos immediately.

In response to the unrest, the Zomi Students Federation (ZSF) enforced an emergency total shutdown in the district from today. ZSF announced the suspension of all normal activities, including the closure of educational institutions.

District administration imposed a strict curfew across Churachandpur, instructing residents to remain indoors and follow the curfew guidelines. Authorities have warned that they will enforce the curfew strictly to maintain law and order.

Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur, Dharun Kumar, issued a statement urging the public to stay calm and cooperate with the administration’s efforts to restore peace.

“I appeal to all communities to stop all violent actions, cooperate with the authorities, engage in peaceful dialogue, and respect the law. The district administration remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens,” DC Dharun Kumar stated.

He called on tribe leaders, church leaders, philanthropic organisations, and civil society organisations (CSOs) to take the initiative in their respective capacities to help bring peace and normalcy to the district.

The Deputy Commissioner also advised the public not to believe or spread any misinformation without verifying it with the concerned authorities. He urged everyone to refrain from resorting to violence and to support efforts toward a peaceful resolution.

Security forces remain on high alert and also conducted a flag march in Churachandpur to prevent further outbreaks of violence. The district administration has assured that it will take all necessary steps to protect the lives and property of residents.
